Honkai: Nexus Anima
OverviewClosed test
Evolution Test begins July 9, 2026
A limited closed test on PC, Android, and iOS. No release date yet. Recruitment is by survey lottery on the official site.
Honkai: Nexus Anima is Eden of Gaming coverage for the next title from HoYoverse, the fifth game in the Honkai series and the studio's first creature-collector. You play a dimensional traveler who bonds with elemental creatures called Anima and builds a roster for an autobattler combat layer wrapped in open exploration. There is no release date yet, so this EOG.GG hub is a news, first-look, and overview tracker rather than a guide hub. Guides and a tier list arrive once the game is playable.

First Look and Early Impressions
Nothing here is a playthrough verdict. Nexus Anima is not publicly playable yet. This is an honest pre-release read built from the official reveal, the Evolution Test announcement, and reputable reporting. We will replace it with hands-on impressions after the test.
What the reveal tells us, where the hype is real, and where to keep expectations in check before the Evolution Test.
Why it matters
This is the first HoYoverse game built as a creature-collector, and it lands in a genre that has been wide open for a polished, big-budget entry. HoYoverse brings the production values and live-service muscle behind Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail to a monster-taming loop, which is why the gacha and collector community is treating the reveal as a genuine event rather than a side project. For an EOG audience, the read is simple: when HoYoverse enters a category, it tends to set the new bar for it.
What looks promising
- A real creature-collector from a top-tier studio. Roster building plus an autobattler layer suits both grinders and players who want a more hands-off, strategic battle flow.
- Honkai pedigree and crossover appeal. The game reuses characters from Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai: Star Rail, which gives the existing fanbase an immediate reason to bond in.
- Bonds over pure power. The pitch leans on forming relationships with the Anima rather than only stacking stats, which is a softer, collection-first hook than a typical PvP ladder game.
- A clear on-ramp. A starting village, Iya, with named districts and hubs points to a structured single-player adventure rather than a bare battle client.
What to keep in check
- No release date. Only the closed Evolution Test is dated. Treat any launch window you see elsewhere as a rumor until HoYoverse confirms it.
- Monetization is unannounced. HoYoverse games are free-to-play with gacha, but the exact pull rates, pity, and energy systems for Nexus Anima are not public. Reserve the pay-to-win verdict until they are.
- Autobattler is divisive. Hands-off combat reads as relaxing to some and shallow to others. How much real-time control and team-building depth exists is the single biggest open question.
- Test builds are not launch builds. Evolution Test content, balance, and systems will change. Early footage should be read as a direction, not a final product.
Who should watch it
Creature-collector fans who have wanted a HoYoverse-grade take on the genre, and existing Honkai and Star Rail players who want the crossover, should put this high on their watch list and apply for the test. Competitive-first players chasing a deep PvP ladder should wait for combat details before getting invested. Follow this hub and the EOG.GG Discord for the test recap and a day-one verdict.
Gameplay and the Anima
What we know about the world, the creatures, and how battles are shaped, drawn from official materials and reputable reporting. Details are provisional until the game is playable.
Setting and story
You play an avatar of a dimensional traveler, recently freed from a long confinement, who begins a new adventure in the village of Iya in the reality dimension. The Evolution Test build centers on Iya and its Newtown district, with named locations such as the Bond Hall and the True Nexus Group building. As the fifth Honkai title, it shares characters and threads with Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai: Star Rail while telling its own story.
Bonding with Anima
Anima are the mysterious creatures at the heart of the game. You meet and bond with them in various ways, and each carries elemental powers you weave together in battle. The collection loop is framed around communion and bonds rather than capture alone, which sets the tone for a relationship-driven roster rather than a pure stat chase. Early companions shown include Nanafei, Bai Mei, and Olympia, representing different factions.
Combat and strategy
Combat is described as an autobattler layered into adventure and role-playing systems. You build a roster and combine Anima abilities and elemental powers, then make strategic choices that shape how fights resolve. Exactly how much moment-to-moment control you have versus pre-battle team-building is the key detail still to confirm. EOG.GG will map the elemental interactions and team archetypes once the test build is in hand.

The Evolution Test
HoYoverse is running a closed Evolution Test starting July 9, 2026 on PC, Android, and iOS. It is a limited-access, non-paying beta: testers are chosen by lottery from players who pre-register and complete a survey on the official site, and all progress is wiped when the test ends. The build is set to cover core gameplay, story, new characters, Anima, and regions.
How to apply
Open the official site at hna.hoyoverse.com, complete the recruitment survey, and wait for a lottery selection. Applying does not guarantee a slot. Keep an eye on the EOG.GG Discord for a recruitment reminder and a recap once the test goes live.
How we got here
Trademark filings and media accounts surfaced in April 2025, followed by an easter-egg tease at the Honkai: Star Rail anniversary stream in May 2025. HoYoverse then formally unveiled the game as a creature-collector and opened closed beta sign-ups, leading into the July 9, 2026 Evolution Test. A full release date has not been announced.
Guides and tier list
Guides, a reroll guide, and an Anima tier list are coming once Nexus Anima is playable. There is no live build to write accurate guides from yet, so EOG.GG is holding this section rather than publishing placeholders. Follow the hub for Evolution Test and launch coverage.
